Independence Day:

28th and 29th de July:

July 28 in each year commemorates the day that Peru gained its independence. General José de San Martín, known as Peru's liberator, proclaimed Peru's independence on this date.

History:

The history of Peru spans several millennia, extending back through several stages of cultural development in the mountain region and the coastal desert. About 15,200 years ago, groups of people are believed to have crossed the Bering Strait from Asia and survived as nomads, hunting, gathering fruits and vegetables and fishing in the sea, rivers and lakes. Peruvian territory was home to the Norte Chico civilization, one of the six oldest in the world, and to the Inca Empire, the largest state in Pre-ColumbianAmerica. It was conquered by the Spanish Empire in the 16th century, which established a Viceroyalty with jurisdiction over most of its South American domains. The nation declared independence from Spain in 1821 but consolidated only after the Battle of Ayacucho, three years later.

Columbus Day:

Celbrated in Peru, as well as the United States

on October 12th.

Peru has an amazing cuisine:

Peru's geography yields diverse ingredients: abundant seafood from the coast, tropical fruits from the jungle, and unusual varieties of grains and potatoes from the Andes.

Christmas and New Year:

Although North Americans typically celebrate Christmas on June 25th, as with many South American countries like Venezuela and Bolivia, the biggest Christmas celebrations are not on Christmas Day but the night before on Christmas Eve, in Peru it is known as Noche Buena or Good Night.
